AACG Telecom Expert Presented at CRRI Regulatory Conference on Mandatory Sharing Requirement and Upward Pricing Pressure
Dr. Timothy Tardiff presented at the 36th Annual Conference of the Center for Research in Regulated Industries held on May 31-June 2, 2017. The CRRI conference features some of the latest developments in telecommunications, energy, postal, and other regulation industries. Dr. Tardiff presented the paper “Mandatory Upstream Inputs and Upward Pricing Pressure: Implications for Competition Policy” (co-authored with Professor Dennis Weisman), which has also been accepted for publication in Research in Law and Economics. This article describes an approach to analyze price increases that can arise when certain firms are required to provide inputs to their competitors. The article also identifies similar concerns associated with decisions to deregulate historically-regulated industries and in deliberations on whether proposed mergers may have anticompetitive effects.
